Permission denied for jython_kernel.py

After getting into the directory and typing 'python setup.py install' I get this message in my terminal:

running install
running build
running build_py
running install_lib
copying build/lib/jython_kernel.py -> /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages
error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Library/Python/2.7/site-packages/jython_kernel.py'

I have tried chown and cmod to gain access but nothing works. I can't gain permission to the file.
