Ah nevermind, I see it was reverted in #123696. @am11 feel free to include this patch in the follow up.

Thanks. I have included it in #123645. If you get a chance, please run the failing test with the PR as I couldn't repro on my machine. 🥲

Tried a reduced test case I had and also the async test, they both succeed with #123645. 👍
